Job Title: Instructor/Assistant Associate Professor of Public Communications
Description: The South Carolina State University Communications Program, a component of the university's Department of English and Modern Languages, and one of the school's fastest-growing academic units, invites applications for the position of Instructor/Assistant /Associate Professor of public communications. Requirements: The successful candidate will mainly teach undergraduate theory and practice-based public relations courses, with topics that include public communications processes, persuasive writings, integrated marketing, intercultural communications and public communications campaigns. The successful candidate will also have the possibility of teaching other classes across the Program's curriculum, which includes courses in journalism, broadcasting, and digital media. Additionally, the position entails undergraduate student advising, supervising student activities, and active participation in department, college, and university activities. He or she must also have active involvement in research grant writing. Minimum Requirements for Entry into Position: This position requires a master's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field, with some experience in the industry. Experience with the Public Relations Society of America, particularly in regards to founding and/or advising a Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter, will be considered a plus. Applicants should also have awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population gained either through intercultural studies, training, teaching or other experiences. A Ph.D. degree is preferred, and is required for an appointment to the assistant or associate professor rank. Description: Under limited supervision, installs, maintains and inspects the SCETV towers. Plans, organizes and performs maintenance as required on all SCETV owned towers, wire attachment points and tower foundations. Inspects tower grounding system (above ground) and determines proper corrosion control requirements for all towers. Insures that all towers are in compliance with all FAA, FCC, EIA/TIA, OSHA and ANSI, and ASTM rules and regulations. Establishes an adequate routine maintenance program for grounds care at each guyed tower site. Serves as technical advisor for new tower construction, upgrading of existing towers and dismantling and moving existing towers. Orders parts, supplies and tools as required.
