Summer Convention
Held
in August on the South Carolina coast, this convention offers a
pleasant mix of business and leisure. Programs include general training
sessions for all attendees, outdoor social events, the STAR Awards
Ceremony and a golf tournament. The convention also offers advertising
and sponsorship opportunities to stations and companies wishing
to support the Association or promote their services to convention
attendees. The agenda and registration materials provide specific
dates, times and fees. The 2008 convention will be held August 7-9.
Advertising and
Sponsorships
Advertising may be purchased in the program booklet that is distributed
to all convention attendees and all convention events are available
for sponsorship. Sponsorships include recognition from the podium,
acknowledgement in the program book, complimentary ad and appropriate
signage at the event sponsored. To discuss which option will best
meet your business’ needs, contact SCBA.

General Training Sessions
Typically, SCBA invites
representatives from NAB
and the FCC to
update broadcasters on critical regulatory and legislative issues.
These sessions are usually held on Friday mornings at the convention.
Outdoor Social Events
Since this convention is held on the coast, SCBA takes advantage
of the outdoors for many of its activities. Attendees generally
kick off the convention with a welcome reception and dinner at a
lovely outdoor venue. On Friday, an outdoor luncheon provides the
perfect backdrop for the annual Radio vs. Television competition
and the outdoor events culminate on Friday evening with an open
bar reception and buffet near the beach with live entertainment
by a BMI artist.
STAR
Awards Ceremony
SCBA’s prestigious
State Television And Radio (STAR) Awards Dinner & Ceremony is
the crowning event of the Summer Convention. The STAR
Awards recognize the exceptional accomplishments of the state’s
stations and their broadcast professionals. Winning stations are
announced at the ceremony and some of the award-winning entries
are featured in a professionally produced audio-visual presentation.
Golf Tournament
Whether an enthusiast
or a novice, SCBA members and their guests enjoy playing in the
annual SCBA Golf Tournament. This tournament provides plenty of
networking opportunities as well as challenging play. For the past
five years, the tournament has been held at the world-famous Harbour
Town Golf Links. Prizes are given in several categories and
presented at the STAR Awards Ceremony.
Palmer, Nicklaus, Irwin,
Love, Miller, Stewart, Watson, Faldo, Zoeller and Norman are among
the champions to wear the tartan jacket at Harbour Town Golf Links.
Named as one of the nation’s “Top 100 Courses”
by Golf Digest, Harbour Town Golf Links was designed by acclaimed
course architect Pete Dye and design consultant Jack Nicklaus and
fashioned after the great seaside Scottish courses. Attendees won’t
want to pass up this rare opportunity to play this legendary course
which has been described as "nothing short of a work of art”
by Sports Illustrated magazine.
Sea Pines
The crown jewel of Hilton Head and Sea
Pines is the Inn
at Harbour Town. This 4-Diamond European style inn will provide
exclusive accommodations for SCBA guests. The Inn is nestled in
the center of Sea Pines near the Harbour Town Yacht Basin and overlooks
the fairways of the legendary
Harbour Town Golf Links and the world famous Sea Pines Racquet
Club. Spacious VIP
Harbour Town villas are also available for SCBA guests.
