About Our Agency: South Carolina ETV (SCETV) is the state’s public educational broadcasting network. Using television radio and the web, SCETV’s mission is to enrich lives by educating children, informing and connecting citizens, celebrating our culture and environment and instilling the joy of learning. SCETV provides national and local content to classrooms via internet services Knowitall.org and PBS Learning Media. SCETV also provides teacher training and re-certification in face-to-face and online settings.

Job Purpose: Under general supervision assists transmitter supervisors in the operation of multiple digital broadcast transmitter installations. Provides relief coverage for transmitter supervisors.

Job Duties: Performs routine and emergency maintenance on very complex high power broadcast transmitters. Performs routine and emergency maintenance on very complex video and audio processing, monitoring, remote control, and associated equipment. Prepares monthly ETV Transmitter Reports. Checks broadcast signals and operation for compliance with FCC and FAA rules and regulations.

Keeps required records and files for compliance with FCC and FAA rules and regulation. Orders parts, supplies, and tools as required for transmitters, associated equipment and building. Maintains building and grounds. Performs general inspection of transmitting tower, guy lines, and guy anchors.

Assists with management and maintenance of Emergency Communication Systems. Attends meetings and other events/functions as SCETV representative. Performs related tasks as assigned by Transmitter Operations Manager and V.P. Engineering.

Minimum and Additional Requirements:An Associate degree in electronics and related experience. A valid SC Driver’s License. FCC General Class Amateur Radio License

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Preferred Qualifications

An Associate degree in electronics or military electronics training and two (2) years of operating and maintain a TV and FM, or high power radar transmitter installations and digital transmitters; or any equivalent combination of education, training or experience. FCC Extra Class Amateur Radio License.

Additional Comments

May lift and/or move heavy equipment. Operates around high voltage and large electrical equipment. Workplace contains high voltage electrical and electronic equipment. Must be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Some night and weekend work periodically required. Must be able to respond to emergency calls within a short time period. Required to carry a cell phone. This position requires statewide travel to all South Carolina counties where SCETV equipment is located. Employee will need to reside in one of the following SC Counties: Dorchester, Charleston, Berkley, Clarendon, Williamsburg, Georgetown, Horry, Florence, Marion Counties.
