WCIV in Charleston, SC is seeking an experienced and motivated Investigative Producer to develop, research, and produce high-impact investigative and accountability journalism for broadcast, digital, and social media platforms. This position requires a strong journalist with the ability to uncover meaningful stories, hold elected leaders and government officials accountable, and produce content that informs the public and drives community impact.

The Investigative Producer will go beyond daily news coverage to identify systemic problems, expose wrongdoing or inaction, and press for meaningful solutions. The ideal candidate will be skilled at asking smart, thought-provoking, and challenging questions of public officials and decision-makers, while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, fairness, and journalistic integrity.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop, research, and produce original investigative and accountability stories for broadcast, digital, and social platforms
  • Identify issues of importance to the community and pursue stories that uncover problems, reveal underlying causes, and seek solutions
  • Conduct in-depth research using public records, FOIA requests, data analysis, and other reporting tools
  • Interview elected leaders, government officials, and other sources with confidence, professionalism, and strong editorial judgment
  • Write clear, compelling, fact-based content with a sharp and thought-provoking edge
  • Use dynamic storytelling techniques to create impactful content across multiple platforms
  • Collaborate with newsroom leadership, reporters, photographers, and digital staff to execute investigations from concept through publication or broadcast
  • Ensure all investigative content meets legal, ethical, and editorial standards
  • Monitor current events, policy developments, and community concerns to generate relevant story ideas

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrated experience in investigative, enterprise, or accountability journalism
  • Strong news judgment and the ability to identify stories with meaningful public impact
  • Exceptional writing, research, and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to multitask and manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) process and public records reporting
  • Experience with computer-assisted reporting and data-driven journalism
  • Familiarity with legal issues related to investigative news reporting, including accuracy, fairness, and liability considerations
  • Strong understanding of current events, government, and public affairs
  • Ability to produce content for broadcast, digital, and social media platforms
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a television newsroom or multi-platform news environment
  • Experience producing stories that resulted in measurable public or community impact
  • Advanced knowledge of data analysis tools, research methods, and investigative storytelling techniques

Work Environment
This position operates in a fast-paced newsroom environment and requires the ability to manage long-term projects while responding to breaking news and emerging developments as needed.
