Job Summary/Description:
Charleston’s weather is dynamic and dramatic—from sun-splashed beach days to tropical systems and severe storms. As our weekday morning meteorologist, you’ll bring the forecast to life across platforms and help keep our community safe and informed—all while shaping the daily conversation on our award-winning morning show. Bring the energy, bring the curiosity, bring the sunshine (or track the storms). If you’re ready to make weather come alive in one of America’s most desirable and exciting cities, WCSC Live 5 in Charleston wants you on our team. Important note: This role is for an experienced, industry-proven meteorologist. It is not an entry-level position. A current demo reel is required to be considered.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Work weekday mornings, on-air for weather and traffic, five days a week
• Early-morning call times with the expectation of extended hours during significant weather events
• Community and station appearances as part of the Live 5 brand
• Turn raw data, models, and science into accurate, easy-to-understand local forecasts
• Deliver compelling, conversational weather on TV, streaming, digital, and social
• Track and clearly communicate severe weather (tropical, tornadic, and beyond) with urgency and authority
• Drive a digital-first strategy with timely updates, push alerts, and social engagement
• Collaborate closely with producers, anchors, and the newsroom to make smart editorial decisions
• Help build and present traffic coverage that complements and enhances your weathercasts
• Execute live field hits for severe weather, community events, and enterprise coverage when needed
• Contribute to special coverage, explainers, and enterprise content that deepens audience understanding
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, or a related field
• Proven on-air industry experience in broadcast meteorology (this is not a beginner role)
• A strong, current demo reel showcasing your on-air delivery and forecasting approach (required)
• Mastery of weather graphics systems, radar analysis, and model interpretation
• A digital-first mindset and fluency in social media strategy, writing, and engagement
• Excellent time management, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize under pressure
• A collaborative spirit—and the confidence to own a show solo when needed
• Clear, conversational communication that makes complex science accessible
• Schedule flexibility (weather doesn’t punch a clock!)
