CAREER  ACHIEVEMENTS

·         In a career spanning over 50 years, I’ve held positions of progressive responsibility, combining new technology with efficient and cost-saving measures.

·        At Blount Communications, I expanded my skills from station manager to include technology, sales, and programming.   The procedures I implemented saved the company money, as well as providing a more reliable on-air product.

·        Interviewed, hired, and trained sales staff at Blount Communications, including coaching.

·        While at Blount Communications, my results-oriented management style met monthly budgets in a down economy.

·        I received recognition at KJRL/KNGM for transitioning the station from an out-of-town facility to new facilities in a populated town.  This increased station presence and exposure, resulting in increased donations from listeners.

·       I am familiar with the operation and maintenance of Google, AudioVAULT, and BSI automation software systems.      In all positions, I have accepted the responsibility of being a good steward of the stations’ resources

 

CAREER EXPERIENCE

WIHS FM Middletown, CT July 2020-Present

General Manager-Chief Engineer: Manager of 22 staff members and contractors. Installed new studios with new AIOP consoles and computer automation.  Improved the on-air sound with a new processor and newer music programming and jingles. Coaching of staff to improve on performance. Made programming changes to attract a larger audience.

 

Bible Broadcasting Network, Charlotte, NC July 2015–July 2020

Network Staff Engineer: On-call Technical Support for a staff of 5 station managers and 45 full power stations. Maintain and test standby generator at corporate offices. Maintain studios and satellite uplink. Ship equipment to contract engineers as needed. Build new transmitter facilities.

 

Townsquare Media, Grand Junction, CO November 2014 – March 2015

Market Director of Engineering.  Maintain Five transmitter sites and eight studios.

 

WYCM F.M., Charlton, MA January-April 2012.

General Manager, Director of Engineering—Manage staff, and manage engineering needs. On-air fundraising, announcer, music director.   The station was sold and the position was eliminated.

 

WAVA AM/FM WWRC, Arlington, VA (Washington, D.C.) October 2010–April 2011 Temporary Position.

Staff Engineer. Responsible for one F.M. And two A.M. Transmitter sites as well as studios.

 

CAREER EXPERIENCE Continued

WAY FM Media Group, Colorado Springs, CO January 2009 – February 2010

Corporate Staff Engineer:  Maintained 6 F.M. broadcast transmitters and associated physical plants.

Assured that each transmitter is operating within Federal Communications Commission

(FCC) rules and regulations by making regular visits to each site. Assured that each

transmitter is operating within corporate guidelines. Periodically adjusted each

transmitter to keep it operating within the operating parameters of the FCC and the

corporation. Daily read meters to confirm that each transmitter was operating within

legal and quality parameters. Installed Cat 5 cable and connectors as part of the Information

Technology duties when network changes became necessary. Assisted staff with computer

troubles and worked to get the computer working normally. Made telephone system extension

installations and modifications to meet the needs of current and new staff members.

Made minor programming changes to the phone system to meet the needs of current and new

staff members. Inspected computers and their network connections to assure proper

operation. Installed an analog radio recording studio and associated equipment and

performed upgrades and modifications when directed. Provided consultation to staff

regarding broadcast automation system modifications and repairs.

KJRL/KNGM, Abilene, KS    November 2007 – October 2008

Station Manager/Technology Manager: Moved the operation center and offices from a small facility in a remote location

to a more populated city. Designed and installed two, all-new digital radio studios.

Trained staff of 4 on how to operate the equipment in the two digital radio studios.

Installed a Local Area Network (LAN) and the routers and switches associated with

each node. Installed a KU band satellite uplink. Oversaw the purchase and installation

of new office equipment. Maintained and modified the two digital radio studios as

needed. Maintained a network of 6 F.M. radio transmitters by making visits to each

site and assuring each site was operating within FCC rules and regulations. Made

contacts within the community to build awareness of the radio network. Recruited,

hired and trained office staff for administrative duties.

Worked on marketing activities to promote the radio network to the communities serviced

by each of the signals. Worked with the staff to develop plans to promote the radio

network both on the air and by means outside the offices through newspaper advertising,

directory advertising,  public appearances, writing, and on-air announcing.  On and off-air fundraising.

BLOUNT COMMUNICATIONS, Worcester, MA   May 1991 – November 2007

Station Manager/Group Technology Manager: Install and maintain radio broadcasting equipment, including audio consoles,

repair or replace computers, set up and maintain two local area networks (LAN). Trouble

shoot and repair problems with local computer workstations as well as radio broadcast

automation computers. Company-wide tech support for broadcast automation computers.

Maintain two A.M. broadcast transmitters to assure reliable operation and compliance

with all FCC rules and regulations, and the quality standards of the company using

remote control equipment and regular site visits. On-call engineer for a group of

6 radio stations in the company. Company-wide Information Technology support person

for a group of 6 radio stations in the group. Company-wide webmaster making daily

changes to 7 websites in the company and providing answers to technical questions

regarding these websites. Company-wide e-mail support and setup for new employees.

Remote broadcast engineer for network-wide broadcasts including the installation

and operation of equipment necessary to get an audio signal via ISDN to a network

in Dallas, Texas. Trained staff on the operation of radio broadcasting equipment

and provided in-person and telephone support for this staff, public appearances, writing, and on-air announcing, and music director.

Announcer/Engineer: During my tenure, my responsibilities increased as a direct result of my eagerness.  Starting as an Announcer, I was encouraged to work with the Chief Engineer and learn engineering.
